Explore a selection of projects, excursions, workplace learning opportunities and real-world experiences undertaken by our VCE Vocational Major students.
As part of an integrated cooking project, Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students designed and prepared a healthy meal tailored to the needs of a case study person with specific dietary requirements.
Students researched nutritional needs, selected suitable recipes, costed ingredients, prepared and cooked their meals, and reflected on both the final product and the skills they developed throughout the process.
This project combined nutrition, planning, budgeting and practical cooking skills, providing students with the opportunity to apply their learning in a real-world context while developing important life and employability skills.
As part of their VCE Vocational Major studies, students have participated in practical Electrotechnology projects, including wiring sections of a house and learning about electrical systems, circuit planning and safe work practices.
These hands-on experiences allow students to apply their learning in authentic contexts while developing technical skills, confidence and an understanding of industry expectations. Projects such as these support students to explore future pathways in the electrical trades, including apprenticeships and further training opportunities.
As part of a school community project, Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students planned a celebration to mark the Year 7 cohort reaching their 77th day of secondary school at Beaumaris Secondary College.
Throughout the project, students developed teamwork, communication and event-planning skills while designing activities and preparing a proposal for the college leadership team. This process provided valuable experience in project planning, collaboration and presenting ideas to an audience.
To support the project, students organised and ran a BBQ fundraiser, applying skills in planning, budgeting, customer service and food preparation. In preparation, students also completed food safety and hygiene training, learning about safe food handling, cleanliness and food preparation practices.
The project provided students with the opportunity to apply their learning in a practical context while developing skills that are transferable to future study, training and employment pathways.
Our VCE VM students practised their interview skills with industry professionals at Malvern Town Hall. A big thank you to BGKLLEN for giving students the chance to build confidence and put employability skills into action!
Our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students completed their formal accreditation in Using Hygienic Practices for Food Safety. This compulsory training is required for the satisfactory completion of their VCE VM and prepares them for the upcoming House Athletics Carnival BBQ! The course covers key food safety practices, from preventing cross-contamination to proper food storage, ensuring our students are well-prepared for safe food handling. Well done to all participants!
Our Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students participated in a community intergenerational connections program, run in partnership with Bayside City Council. They baked Anzac biscuits to share with local community members, explored workshops including boxing, stretching, yoga, AI and music playlists, and completed 10‑minute mentor interviews. Across all sessions, students shared stories, learned new skills and built meaningful connections across generations.
Our Year 12 Vocational Major students showcased their ambitious VCE VM Program projects to the Principal team on Thursday 12 June, 2025. Held in the MCC Pavilion, this valuable experience not only prepared them for their end-of-year portfolio but also supported students in meeting outcomes for their Literacy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills areas of study. The students did an outstanding job!
Our Year 12 Vocational Major students began their community project with a visit to Beaumaris Children’s Playhouse in February. For their initial activity, students assisted the Playhouse by conducting OH&S audits, focusing on playground equipment, structures, sheds, and general facilities.
In May, they actively participated in a productive working bee, tackling various tasks. These included installing shelves to create a new reading area, refurbishing the racetrack, painting the new sandpit, and designing murals for both the art room and an outdoor area.
Additionally, they organised a successful Toy & Children’s Book Drive in support of the Cancer Council during the Biggest Morning Tea event at Beaumaris Children's Playhouse on 1 June. Students contributed in multiple capacities, such as BBQ cooking, managing entry payments, providing face painting and nail services, overseeing story time and music playlists, assisting with the raffle, capturing photographs, distributing toys from the drive, and aiding in setup and cleanup.
The Beaurista Collective was a student-led social enterprise project undertaken by our Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students. Working in partnership with 23 Degrees Coffee Roasters, students sold whole coffee beans to the community while developing valuable skills in enterprise, communication, teamwork and customer service. The project showcased the applied learning opportunities available through the VCE Vocational Major.
Our Year 11 Vocational Major students have taken their practical skills to the next level by constructing a new footpath for our outdoor classroom. This initiative not only enhances the accessibility and usability of the space but also demonstrates the students' hard work and commitment to improving our school environment. Well done to our talented Year 11 VM students!
Our VCE Vocational Major students took charge in reinvigorating our outdoor classroom! They rolled up their sleeves, tackled weeds, cleared pathways and laid down fresh mulch in the parklands behind the school. Despite the challenges, they powered through and did an amazing job. This experience was invaluable, but the work isn't over yet!
The VCE Vocational Major Year 11 students organised the first-ever BSC Ride2School Day, with over 78% of students riding, walking, or taking public transport to school! Kudos to all participants who embraced the initiative, and a big shout-out to Nippy’s and Carman’s for their generosity! Active communities are great communities!
The VCE Vocational Major Year 11 students introduced the 'Cans for Cause' campaign. New bins have been placed around the school for students to place any bottles, cans or cartons into. The money raised for the month of February is going towards The Smith Family - not only can we clean up the school, but we can also help young people in need.
The Year 11 Vocational Major students fired up the BBQ as part of their Community Engagement Project to raise funds for The Lost Dogs Home. Thank you to everyone who supported the cause and purchased a sausage. We raised a total of $615.00!
The Lost Dogs Home will be very appreciative and will put the funds towards caring for the animals in the shelter.
Thank you to the following local businesses for their donations and support:
Two of the groups from the Vocational Major had a trial run of their community ventures on Friday 12 May 2023. The Collective Café opened a temporary coffee shop within the staff room, making coffees for teachers where the coffee was free but customers were asked to make a donation to one of three charities. The students managed to raise $114.85 for the Kawanis Club which is fantastic effort by Sachin M and Isaac H.
Our Vocational Major (VM) students opened the doors to their ‘Collective Café’ again in August 2023. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee proved popular with staff who, in return, gave back to a local non-profit. Kudos to our VM students for this initiative that blends learning with community impact!
The Beauy Bikes initiative also took its first bikes for service. This trial was offered to the first five students free of charge. With no major issues, the students will be looking to set up their venture in the coming weeks, where students are able to get their bikes serviced while at school with proceeds going towards the Fred Hollows Foundation. Another fantastic initiative by the Vocational Major students.
