VET, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) provide students with practical, industry-focused learning opportunities while they are at school. These programs help students develop workplace skills, gain valuable experience and explore pathways into further education, training and employment.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) allows students to undertake nationally recognised training while completing their VCE or VCE Vocational Major (VM).
VET programs combine classroom learning with practical, hands-on experiences and provide students with skills and knowledge relevant to specific industries and occupations.
VET is a compulsory component of the VCE Vocational Major and is also available to students undertaking the VCE.
Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) provides students with the opportunity to undertake a placement with an employer in an industry related to their VET studies.
SWL allows students to apply the skills and knowledge developed through their VET program in a real workplace setting while gaining valuable insight into industry expectations and career opportunities.
SWL placements are unpaid and are undertaken in accordance with Department of Education guidelines.
School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) enable students to combine school studies with paid employment and accredited training.
Students undertaking an SBAT complete part of a nationally recognised apprenticeship or traineeship while continuing their secondary education. This pathway allows students to gain valuable industry experience, earn an income and develop skills that support future employment opportunities.
At Beaumaris Secondary College, students undertaking an SBAT may be supported through the Victorian Government's Head Start program, which helps students successfully balance school, work and training while progressing towards their chosen career pathway.
SBATs are available across a range of industries and can be tailored to suit individual student interests and career goals.
